Yummy After School Snack

Here is an easy recipe that would make a great after school snack. Fruit salad and celery with peanut butter.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Pears
  • 1 pint of strawberries
4 cutie oranges
  • 2 cups of grapes
  • 2  tablespoons of peanut butter
  • Celery
Directions:
  • Wash the fruit thoroughly
  • Cut the celery and wash it
  • Cut tops of strawberries
  • Cut the Pears into pieces
  • Peel and separate the cuties
  • Mix all the fruit together
  • Spread the peanut butter on the celery sparingly, add raisins if you like them!
Now it is time to get out a plate and enjoy your snack. This recipe makes enough for you to share some with your friends and family.

You may be saying peanut butter..is that really heart healthy? Well first eating a lot of peanut butter is not good for you because it does contain saturated fat. If you eat saturated fat in moderation it's alright, hey it is even in the food pyramid, but it does say use sparingly! In this recipe we recommend 2 tablespoons. Peanut butter does have some good benefits to it...containing lots of protein, vitamin A, E and folate and other important vitamins and minerals.

I took a picture of my heart healthy fruit salad below. Enjoy!

Simple Homemade Bird Feeder

This super fun craft is also super easy to do!!

Materials needed for one bird feeder:

  • 1 slice of bread
  • 1 table spoon peanut butter
  • 1 cup of bird seed
  • 1 piece of yarn about 12 inches long. (maybe you can use an alternative for the yarn that is edible too)

Directions:

First you take long a piece of yarn. Then make a loop over the slice of bread then tie it... make sure there is enough yarn so you can hang it up. Next spread the peanut butter on the bread and then pour the cup of bird seed on the bread. Lastly, you can hang the bird feeder up somewhere outside.

Have fun!!
